Re: Images du groupe World War II in Original Color
Heureusement, les porte-avions américains étaient grands
Re: Images du groupe World War II in Original Color
Le TBM Avenger est aussi assez impressionant en vrai (vu dans un musée au Canada)

SdKfz 141 Panzerkampfwagen III Ausf. G tanks of Panzer-Regiment 5 being unloaded in Tripoli, 10 March 1941. These were armed with the 5 cm L/42 gun and had the addition of a turrent ventilator added to the top of the turret just forward of the cupola. They also came with the new cupola design. Also seen are Le.gl. Einheits LKW 2.5 ton 6x6 "Einheitsdiesel” transport trucks loading supplies. The bulk of the Panzer-Regiment 5 / 5.Leichte-Division arrives in Tripoli where they are unloaded. The following were unloaded : PzKpfw I Ausf A (25), PzKpfw II Ausf C (45), PzKpfw III Ausf G (61), PzKpfw IV Ausf D (17), Panzer Befehlswagen command tanks (3 x SdKfz 265 Panzerbefehlswagen based on the Panzer I chassis and 4 x Sd.Kfz. 266 Panzerbefehlswagen Ausf. E based on the Panzer III chassis). Leutnant Joachim Schorm of 6.Kompanie / II.Abteilung / Panzer-Regiment 5 records in his diary his arrival in Tripoli and the vivid scenes greeting him and the rest of the regiment: “We enter the harbour at Tripoli. We have done it! 15 miles from us, it's true, an Italian merchant ship and two tankers were sunk by submarines. Behind the colonel and adjutant, I leave the Marburg at 1300 hours at the head of half of 6th Company. The scene in the docks is indescribably picturesque. Rommel and German officers [are dressed] in field grey, the Luftwaffe in khaki trousers, breeches, shorts, the Italians in every conceivable uniform.”

A Wehrmacht armored unit is seen resting on the sidelines of forward movement in Russia, in the summer of 1941. From the "Y" shaped markings written on the gepack-kasten (storage bin) on the back of the Panzer III on the left, we can find out that they are from the 7. Panzer-Division. This German medium tank is painted in dark gray (dunkelgrau), as well as Sd.Kfz.251 and other vehicles in the background, except the Kübelwagen car - which is likely to be used for reconnaissance missions - that painted in dark yellow ( dunkelgelb). This photo itself was taken from the air at low altitude by an unknown Kriegsberichter (war correspondent), possibly on a light transport aircraft Fieseler Fi 156 "Storch". During the Unternehmen Barbarossa (German invasion of Russia), 7. Panzer-Division operated in the middle sector of the Eastern Front, under the command of Generalleutnant Hans Freiherr von Funck who replaced the legendary previous commander, Erwin Rommel. The division started the campaign with 400 officers and 14,000 men. By January 1942, six months from the start of the offensive, the division had suffered 2,055 killed, 5,737 wounded, with 313 missing and another 1,089 sick with frostbite and louse-borne diseases.

A Luftwaffe’s ground crewman installs an Zeiss Ikon ESK 2000 B aircraft camera on the wing of a Messerschmitt Bf 109.
These cameras were initially mounted on the wings or fuselage of aircraft and used in the training of future pilots. Later, during the war, they were mounted on the nose of aircraft such as the Me 110 and 210 and used as gun cameras.
Given the position of the fuel filler point below the cockpit, the shape of the later and the absence of an opening on the upper panel (near the glove), I believe this Bf 109 to be an early B-1, one of only 30 B-1 built.
The photo is undated and it can be either pre-war or war period given that outdated aircraft were often used by training units.

"Zoo Bunker". View from the FlaK tower of the large zoo bunker in the Tiergarten, 1945 / Photo by Cecil F. S. Newman
In April 1941, the large "Gustav" gun turret was completed on the grounds of the Berlin Zoo. Anti-aircraft guns of various calibers were on it - from the 2 cm flak quadruple to large 12.8 cm twin guns. The associated L-tower was built in 1939-1941 and was also the control center for the entire Berlin anti-aircraft gun. In addition to the regular crew, air force helpers, including a. High school students from Zwickau (Saxony), deployed on the flak tower, who had to coordinate the flow of the Berlin residents seeking protection in the bunker (up to 16,000 civilians in the event of an alarm) in the event of attacks.
The staff of the 1st anti-aircraft division under Major General Otto Sydow and the anti-aircraft headlight group Berlin under Colonel Paul Hasenfuß was housed in the tower. In April 1945, Reichsmarschall Hermann Göring briefly stayed in the hospital of the large bunker before he left for Bavaria.
In May 1945, a Soviet trophy commission seized the art objects from the Berlin museums stored in hall N 11 of the Flakturm Zoo, including the largest gold find from antiquity, the treasure of Priam (Schliemann-Gold), with 8,900 pieces. It came to the Soviet Union as an art of prey and was considered lost. It was not until 1994 that the Pushkin Museum in Moscow became the owner.
The Tiergarten district was in the British sector of Berlin from July 1945. In the summer of 1947, the occupying powers wanted to blow up both flak towers. After the blowing up of the guiding tower on July 28, 1947 with 12 tons of dynamite was followed in August by the failed blasting of the tower with 25 tons of dynamite. A second explosion was not successful.
It was only on July 30, 1948 that the turret was destroyed with 40 tons of TNT. The remains of the towers were covered with rubble. The Zoological Garden had the rubble mountain removed in 1955 and the remains of the bunker smashed by small explosions. Oxygen lances had to be used to carry out the demolition work on the reinforced concrete.
After the roughly 412,000 m³ of rubble had been removed from the site, the zoo erected enclosures for camels and rhinos as well as the bird house. This made the flak tower pair of the zoo bunker the only one of which no remains exist.

US Navy K-class blimp flies on anti-submarine patrol over a convoy in 1944-45. K-class blimps were armed with one Browning .50 cal machine gun and four 350 lb (160 kg) AN-Mk 47 depth charges. They had a crew of 9-10 and had an endurance capability of over 24 hours. The blimps were equipped with the ASG radar, that had a detection range of 90 mi (140 km), sonobuoys, and magnetic anomaly detection equipment.

Photographed by Carl Mydans of LIFE Magazine in August, 1945, nearly 5 months after the liberation of the Philippines from the Japanese invasion...
Salvage operations was done to recover as much of the approximate 17 million of silver peso coins from the Philippine Treasury that was dumped (to hide it) into the Manila Harbor south of Corregidor by the American Commander to prevent it from falling into the hands of the Japanese forces before surrendering to Japan in 1942...
